Durango

Catching up on some post now. After leaving Copper Canyon I headed to Durango. Durango City is the capitol of Durango state and is famous for being the home to Pancho Villa, the famous revolutionary general / badit. Pancho Villa is the only military leader to invade the USA.

I found a hotel via Ioverlander. Ioverlander is a great app for travelers. It's a user data base about camping and hotels and other essential knowledge that a traveler might want to know.

The hotel was in a great location in the middle of the central square and right next to the famous church. One minor detail was that I had to push my bike through the square and into the hotel. No Problem!

Being a Mosko Moto gear guide I am always on the lookout for Mosko luggage bering used by others. This is Ken. He is traveling to South America too. Only he is deaf and mute! How amazing is that!

This is the famous cathedral in Durango square, Catedral Basílica Menor.

I arrived in Durango on a Friday and there was a lot of people and events happening in the square. I asked someone what the occasion was. He said "It;s Friday!"

More amazing architecture.

I had been desperate for a decent cup of coffee and Lonely Planet suggested this place. The coffee was excellent! I told them I was from Seattle and they knew immediately that I knew coffee.

These guys know what they are doing!

I spent only one night in Durango and wish I had stayed longer. I had made arrangements on Couchsurfing to stay in Zacateas, and so I had to press on.

I ended up camping between Durango and Zacateas in Parque Nacional Sierra de Órganos. This place was awesome and I had the whole place to myself. A mere 50 pesos. There were wild donkeys and javelinas in the park.

While I was camping, I took advantage of the time to do a quick oil change.

The next day I started towards Zacatecas, but stopped in Sombrerete for some food. Sombrerete is a Pueblo Magico rated city. I was so hungry and the traffic was so bad, I ended up doing circles for almost an hour before finding a place to park and eat.
