Not so fast

So I've been on the road for over 130 days now, but the last month I have been stationary. Why? Because sometime opportunities arise out of fate. The last month I've been staying with my new friend Paco. He is the carpenter / graphic designer / tour guide / new hotel manager for Cuna de Tierra, a vineyard that make some exceptional wine just outside Dolores Hildago here in Mexico.

For the first three months of this trip around the world I had been in a constant state of motion. Never in one place for more than a few days. I was starting to get a bit weary. Not because I wasn't seeing all that there is to see, but because I was not getting a better understanding of the people who live in these places. So, when fate presented this opportunity, I decided to let it lead the way.

I had only intended to stay here for about 10 days more or less, but Paco and I were getting along so well, and I was able to help him with some projects he was working. And, if you know me at all, you know that I will jump in with both feet to help someone. It became a great opportunity to do something else other than motorcycle. So, what began as giving a helping hand has now turned into a full blown project as Paco has asked me to help him to build a bar in a new hotel he will be managing for Cuna de Tierra.

(Making bar stools)

(Sanding for days)

(Things are shaping up)

(Time to add a finish)

(Looking good!)

(The bar)

Travel should be more than just observing and absorbing, it should be contributing. I am so happy for this opportunity, and I hope that I will find more as I go. Being here for more than just a few days has given me some great opportunities to meet more locals and make more friends. With that, I am having a better understanding of the culture and the people. Thank you Paco!
